Garrett Alvar

Thanks to a childhood immersed in folk and bluegrass music, Garrett has been playing the banjo for more than twenty years. He began performing at a young age, accompanied by his father and brother, at music festivals throughout Florida. While studying Wildlife Ecology at the University of Florida, Garrett spent his free time jamming and performing with local musicians in Gainesville. If he's not playing music, you'll most likely find Garrett surfing or wandering through the woods, meticulously identifying plants and animals in his head.

Currently, Garrett is a sales associate at Hoggtowne Music and also offers banjo and ukulele lessons as well.  His teaching methods revolve around the students' interests as he believes an instrument should not be defined by it's original genre, but is best suited to the musician's passion.
